23th annual Muleday/Chickenfeast

Approximately 7,000 people attended the 23th annual Muleday/Chickenfeast festival held June 4 & 5 in downtown Gordo.  Friday night, June 4, the featured band, "Mo Jo Trio" performed for several thousand people and was well received.  They rated several encores from the crowd.  Saturday, June 5th festival began with the 5K run. After entainment a Historic Marker was unveiled that contained the history of Gordo.  This Marker was presented by the State of Alabama as part of the "Year of Alabama Small Town and Downtown"  project.

Charlene Darling ( Maggie Peterson) an actor on the Andy Griffith Show performed Friday night and Saturday along with a Bluegrass band.  She received a very good responce at both performances.  Other Triubute Artist at the festivial included Goober, Floyd the barber and Ernest T. Bass to help with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Andy Griffith show.

The annual Muleday parade was the largest in recent years with a record number of mules & wagons, antique tractors and antique cars.

The 24th annual Muleday/Chickenfest will be held June 3 & 4, 2011.
